From the Back Cover --

Interspecies Pharmacokinetic Scaling: Allometric Principles and Applications provides a detailed insight into the allometric scaling of pharmacokinetics (PK) of xenobiotics. The book:

· Provides readers with a practical view of allometric scaling and its usefulness in drug development

· Provides step by step procedures to scale PK parameters from laboratory animals to humans and offers several approaches for the selection of the first-in-human dose based on predicted PK parameters

· Discusses how to scale PK parameters from laboratory animals to large animals and how to select animal dose based on predicted PK parameters

· Discusses how to predict maximum tolerated dose (MTD) of anticancer drugs from animals to humans and how to select a dose escalation scheme

· Refutes many wrong and outdated views in allometric scaling and provides a fresh and practical look into the allometric scaling of pharmacokinetics

This book is an ideal resource for pharmaceutical scientists, pre-clinical and clinical pharmacologists, toxicologists, physiologists, biochemists, biologists, veterinarians, and environmental health scientists in academic and industry. The book is also of immense value to clinical pharmacists and medical center-based clinicians. The book is also helpful to graduate students in schools of pharmacy and health sciences.
