Book Description:

When Daniel goes out fishing one morning, he finds a strange pelt floating on a pile of seaweed in the bay. A colony of seals lives near Daniel's home, and he wonders if this pelt could be a sealskin. He decides to bring it home to show his mother, and when she sees it, a magical adventure begins.

This delightful children's story weaves together the ancient myth of the selkie (a seal who can shed her skin to become human), and a modern tale of humans and animals trying to coexist in an urban environment.

About the Author:

Kareen Novak lives in San Diego, California, near a small beach that was taken over by a colony of seals several years ago. The presence of the seal colony, and the controversy which it has caused in this beach community, inspired Kareen to write this little tale about the gifts the seals bring to one local family.

About the Artist
