PAWS Mission --
The PAWS Shelter Foundation,
Inc is a private, non-profit, tax exempt organization founded in 2011 by
Deedie Layman to fund a new Hardin County Animal Shelter in
Elizabethtown, Kentucky. The new facility will provide 14,000 square
feet of a clean, safe environment for the stray animals of Hardin
County. On completion of the new facility, PAWS Shelter Foundation will
be ready for the Hardin County Animal Shelter to occupy and operate
debt-free at the 220 Peterson Avenue location and benefit animal welfare
in the Hardin County community. A partnership has been established
between PAWS Shelter Foundation, Inc. and Hardin County which was
officially documented by Hardin County Judge Harry L. Berry in June
2011. The mission of Pets Are Worth Saving (PAWS) is to fund a new
state–of-the-art animal shelter and support HCAS’s mission. HCAS’s
mission is to control and maintain the issues of unwanted strays,
neglected, and abused cats and dogs of Hardin County as humanely as
possible by: reuniting lost pets with their owners, placing rescues in a
new caring home, and educating the community about spaying and neutering
their pets. PAWS is providing a better opportunity to raise awareness,
adoptions, and reduce homeless animals in the community. PAWS has
created new community partnerships with local schools, businesses, and
concerned citizens. The Board of Directors and volunteers have been
extremely
proactive in making PAWS’ mission a reality. PAWS operates solely from
private donations and grants that will be totally used to complete the
new facility.
