From the Back Cover --

The word “brindle” dates back to the 17th century and describes a coat pattern in certain animals, including dogs, cats, cattle, and sometimes even horses. You might not be familiar with the term, but chances are you’ve seen brindled dogs. They’re the ones with tiger-like stripes covering all or part of their bodies.
