On behalf of
the management, staff, promoters, manufacturers, teams, drivers,
corporate partners and the many volunteers associated with the American
Le Mans Series, I am pleased to introduce this review of our historic
10th season of world-class sports car racing.
In 2008, the
American Le Mans Series reached new heights on many fronts. We all were
treated to the highest levels of competition in Series history at the
finest road racing venues in North America. The 2008 season also will be
remembered for the highly successful launch of the Green Challenge at
Petit Le Mans. In an era where concerns regarding energy sources
generate headlines every day, the American Le Mans Series provides an
answer. The hallmark of the American Le Mans Series is its relevance and
practical application of technology.
In the 10th
season recounted in these pages, the American Le Mans Series continued
its remarkable growth into an internationally recognized racing series –
a vision originally conceived by Dr. Don Panoz, but fulfilled with the
hard work of many.
The racing of
the American Le Mans Series is not only relevant, of course, but also
exciting, compelling – and at times a bit controversial. However, above
all, it has become a sport enjoyed by fans worldwide who once again
tuned in and turned out in record numbers.
The 10th season
of the American Le Mans Series was motorsport in its finest, purest
form. It was a season full of historic events and this yearbook does an
excellent job of capturing much of the drama and art in text and photos.
And while it succeeds in documenting a season of activities, for the
sounds, smells and full-body experience, you’ll have to visit an
American Le Mans Series event in 2009.
