From
the Back Cover --
“The use of real life examples
to illustrate important lessons in parenting, family, grief and loss,
marriage and divorce, kids and school, community and society somehow
engages us in ways textbooks, lectures, and talking
heads cannot. Good old common sense enriched by professional education—
WOW! This collection is a gem.”
--A. Elizabeth (Betsy) Cauble, PhD, LMSW
Five years ago, Steven M.S. Halley,
LSCSW,and Dorthy Stucky Halley, LMSW, were approached by a newspaper,
asking them to write a column on mental health issues. That was the
beginning of “Halley’s Alley”, a weekly column that is now carried in
other newspapers, as well. With commentaries that range from the deeply
personal to global social issues, “Halley’s Alley” takes the reader on a
journey through life in a manner that is fun, informative, tragic, and
human. Steve and Dorthy draw upon their personal experiences as parents,
grandparents, therapists, and ordinary community members in rural
America as the template for their work.
