The Lyric Theatre has a long and rich history in downtown Blacksburg, Its story mirrors the life of the community.

Originally opening in the early years of the 20th century, it witnessed the growth of a small Appalachian town into a thriving center of commerce and was later the victim of modern sprawl development. Built as a segregated theatre, it made the transition to a gathering place for all of our residents. Its renovation and reopening in 1998 reflect the values of an engaged community. Longtime Blacksburg residents Lesley Howard, Su Clauson-Wicker, and Cheryl Wood Ruggiero tell the story through sometimes moving and often amusing first person accounts of many local residents and friends of the Lyric.
