My God Is Awesome! is
a children’s picture book that illustrates the wondrous creations of God
through the eyes of five-year-old Kyla. Through breathtaking hand
paintings by renowned illustrator Jan Spivey Gilchrist and emotive text
authored by the McKenzie mother-daughter team, children and adults are
reminded that God’s awesomeness should be appreciated and respected in
life’s most simple pleasures.

About the Authors and
Illustrator --
Kyla is a five-year old
first time author. She is on a mission to spread the word about the
awesomeness of God. Toward this end, the prekindergarten student
convinced her mom that authoring a children’s picture book would be the
best way to reach this goal. Despite her youth, Kyla was actively
involved in every aspect of the creation and production of this
wonderful work. Expect more books from this spirited writer.
Monique is an
a w a r d - w i n n i n g journalist. Most known for ghostwriting and
her health book, It’s a Sistah Thing: A Guide to Understanding and
Dealing with Fibroids for Black Women. She was an editor for
numerous publications, such as
Heart & Soul, Uptown Professional, and Black Enterprise.
Of course, her most rewarding role is being mom to Kyla and her two
older brothers. Monique and her family are based in Charlotte, North
Carolina.
Ms. Jan is an award
winning illustrator of over 73 children’s books. She won the Coretta
Scott King Award in 1990 and 1992. She is the author and illustrator of
My America and winner of a Parent’s Choice Award in 2007. She was
inducted into the Society of Illustrators and the International Hall of
Fame for Writers of African Descent. She has won numerous other awards
and is the daughter of a minister.
