Introduction --

A battle has been waged in America against the fundamental Christian principles from which this nation was created. This battle is not new. It began with the fall of Adam and will continue until the end of time. It is a battle to protect Liberty from the tyranny of evil. Responding in faith, America’s founders sought to defeat the tyranny of evil by establishing a nation to uphold God’s Truth and His natural law.

Unfortunately, Americans have not always remained faithful to God. For instance, President Lincoln blamed the Civil War on a nation that turned away from God when he called for a national day of fast and prayer. Today, we have allowed secular forces to shape American values which are contrary to the Christian faith. Consider these words presented by a leading secular humanist in 1983:
“The battle for humankind’s future must be waged and won in the public school classroom by teachers who correctly perceive their role as the proselytizers of a new faith: A religion of humanity — utilizing a classroom instead of a pulpit to carry humanist values into wherever they teach. The classroom must and will become an arena of conflict between the old and the new — the rotting corpse of Christianity, together with its adjacent evils and misery, and the new faith of humanism.” – John Dunphy The Humanist, Jan. 1983.

In a nation that recognizes God as our Creator and as the Source of our unalienable Rights, how have we allowed these forces to remove God from our public classrooms? The excerpts from presidential speeches contained in this book tell a most unique story about America’s struggle to uphold God and His Truth. The majority of America’s presidents who have upheld the Truths from which this nation was founded should be contrasted with those who have expressed a desire to build a new America according to a different set of principles. The prophetic words spoken by Cardinal Wojtyla shortly before he became Pope John Paul II  capture the essence of the battle that has been waged. Cardinal Wojtyla spoke in 1976 at the Eucharistic Congress in Philadelphia, PA for the bicentennial celebration of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
