From
the Back Cover --
In 1995, Farid, Yama
and I - dusty, tired and broke - stood on the corner of Jefferson and
18th Street. We had just finished another day of working on our project
of a lifetime, Eighteenth Street Lounge. The three of us knew we would
never survive the office jobs that our formal education had suggested.
When we decided to create the Lounge, it felt like we were putting all
of our chips on one number. Caution had been thrown so far in to the
wind, that our first check to the landlord had no funds to cover it; but
with each step, we managed to keep moving toward our goal. Fifteen years
later, it’s incredible to all of us that Eighteenth Street Lounge not
only opened, but that it’s had such a storied history and gained a
world-wide reputation. So many phenomenal deejays have graced the decks
at ESL and we even managed to make a deep, international impact on
electronic music. And for the spirit and good vibes that we offered to
those who walked through the doors at 1212 18th Street, we received much
more from our friends and guests. Much love to all of them and a deep
thanks for the incredible support and community. So, simply put
Eighteenth Street Lounge is truly a global, nightlife institution. I’ve
never been to a place remotely like it and doubt I ever will.
