About the Star Trek Association of Towson, Inc. --

The Star Trek Association of Towson, Inc. (STAT) is an organization founded in 1978 by about a dozen people who shared an interest in Star Trek. A year later they held the first Shore Leave Convention, which attracted even more Star Trek enthusiasts to their group. The club grew and as time went on, the interests of the club expanded to include other areas of science fiction and science fact. Today, STAT has approximately fifty members residing primarily in the Baltimore-Washington, D.C. corridor, but also includes members in other parts of the mid-Atlantic region.

Current club activities include costumed visits to local hospital pediatric units, visits to libraries and schools to promote literacy, and, of course, holding our annual Shore Leave Convention. The club publishes The Yeoman's Log, a monthly newsletter that keeps members informed about club activities and news from Star Trek, Stargate, and other SF genres.

The club's charitable projects include an annual Blood Drive for the Red Cross, and a Food Drive for the Maryland Food Bank. STAT itself has become an example of IDIC in action -- Infinitely Diverse people Infinitely Combined by their love of Star Trek, science fiction, and science. Our membership is composed of many individuals practicing varied professions and careers. The individual STAT members participating in our charitable projects and Shore Leave Convention serve as an all-volunteer staff. No individual STAT member receives personal profit from any STAT/Shore Leave activity.

Meetings are held monthly. Check our website for date, time, and location. Prospective members who are interested in active membership are asked to attend three out of five meetings before joining so we can get to know each other. The minimum age for membership is 16. Annual Dues are $20 for Active Membership and requires attending at least one meeting out of every three to maintain voting privileges. We also offer an Associate Membership. Annual Dues are only $10 annually, which includes the newsletter, no voting privileges, but no meeting requirements. If you would like more information, please feel free to get in touch with us!
